Let SEPTA and the Power of Flowers Help Solve the Winter Doldrums with a Trip to the 2019 Philadelphia Flower Show: ‘Flower Power’

New Fare Collection Policies and Free Regional Rail Rides with Senior Key Card In Effect for 2019

The arrival of the Philadelphia Flower Show means the cold, gray days of winter are almost over. SEPTA can help show goers get closer to spring and experience the “Flower Power” of the 2019 Flower Show even quicker, when they use the authority’s buses, trains and trolleys to travel to the Pennsylvania Convention Center, which hosts the event March 2 through 10. SEPTA makes it easy for riders to experience the beauty of the Flower Show: the 13th Street Market-Frankford Line Station and Jefferson Station (located at 12th and Market Streets) are just steps from the Pennsylvania Convention Center entrance. The Flower Show is open Saturday, March 2 from 11 am-8 p.m.; Sunday, March 3 from 8 am- 9 p.m.; Monday-Friday, March 4-8 from 10 am-9 p.m.; Saturday, March 9 from 8 am-9 p.m.; and Sunday, March 10 from 8 am- 6 pm

Farelines, turnstiles and ADA gates have been installed at all SEPTA Center City Regional Rail Stations, including Jefferson Station, as part of the SEPTA Key Program. Flower Show attendees are encouraged to buy a round trip ticket at the start of their trip or a return ticket at the Jefferson Station Sales Office prior to entering show. Prepaid fares will be collected or inspected at the turnstiles from 6 am-8 pm. Monday-Friday and 10 am – approximately 9 pm. Saturday and Sunday. Cash is not accepted at turnstiles and customers without a return fare must purchase a ticket at the Jefferson sales office. At all other times, fares can be purchased from the conductor on board the train – cash only (credit and debit cards are not accepted).

Seniors ages 65 and over from Pennsylvania can ride free on any SEPTA mode, including Regional Rail when traveling to and from any Pennsylvania SEPTA Regional Rail station. Seniors must have a SEPTA Senior Key Card (tapped at turnstiles) or valid Pennsylvania driver’s license/non-drive ID card (swiped at turnstiles). Paper Pennsylvania Senior Citizen Transit ID Cards and Medicare Cards are no longer accepted. Seniors from New Jersey and Delaware can ride SEPTA Regional Rail for half-fare if they have a SEPTA Senior Key Card. Regular fares apply for seniors without a Senior Key Card. Information on Senior Key Cards is available at www.septa.org/fares/discount/seniors-ride-free-info.html.

All SEPTA fare information, including details on the One Day Independence Pass and Family Independence Pass, is available at www.septa.org/fares/. Select SEPTA ticket offices will be opened for extended hours beginning the week of February 25.

As an added bonus, SEPTA customers can purchase Flower Show tickets at all major SEPTA Transit Sales Offices and Regional Rail Ticket Offices. Adult Any Day Tickets are $35 and children’s (ages 2-16) discounted tickets are available for $17.

Due to increased Regional Rail ridership during the Flower Show, SEPTA’s Quiet Ride Program will be temporarily suspended as crews will be focused on safety, fare collection and announcements. SEPTA will also add capacity to select trains to accommodate additional riders.
