SEPTA would like to alert riders to a number of bus detours that will be in place due to road closures for the Philadelphia Marathon and related events, Nov 22-23. Due to the size of the course, dozens of routes will be adjusted in Center City to accommodate the festivities.
On Sunday, many routes that run North/South through the city will turn back at Walnut Street or Vine Street. Buses will detour to the Broad Street Line where riders can use subway trains to bridge the detoured area. - Saturday, November 22, Rothman 8K and Kids Run at the Philadelphia Marathon – Starting at 4:00am, Routes 7, 32, 33, 38, 43, and 48 will be detoured due to closure of the Benjamin Franklin Parkway between 19th and 24th Streets. Buses are scheduled to remain on detour through the early afternoon on Saturday.
- Sunday, November 23- Philadelphia Marathon Day – Due the length of the course through Fairmount Park & Center City, bus routes K, R, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 9, 12, 16, 17, 21, 23, 25, 27, 30, 32, 33, 35, 38, 40, 42, 43, 47, 47M, 48, 57, 61, 64, 124 and 125 will begin detours as early as 4:00am through the conclusion of the race events on Sunday afternoon. In addition, Trolley Route 15 will be serviced with buses to accommodate detours along Girard Avenue.
To avoid surface travel delays and detours, riders who normally use buses are encouraged to use SEPTA rail transit including trolleys, subways and Regional Rail where possible. On the Broad Street Line, extra trains will be added along with Sports Express service to AT&T Station leading up to the 1 p.m. Eagles game. Nearby stations including City Hall on the Broad Street Line, 15th Street on the Market-Frankford Line and Suburban Station on the Regional Rail lines provide easy walking access to the Parkway for runners and spectators.
