SEPTA Announces Extra Service for Broad Street Run

Registered Runners Can Ride Broad Street Line Free With Official Bib; Extra Broad Street Line Service, Bus Detours

SEPTA is helping runners get a head start on this year’s Blue Cross Broad Street Run, Sunday, May 5, 2019, with FREE rides for registered runners. SEPTA will also run extra service on the Broad Street Line subway to accommodate the event and is alerting customers to bus detours that will be in place.

Free rides for registered runners are available before the race and after the race until 9 am Participants must display their 2019 official race bib with their competitor number to ride for free.

Dozens of bus routes operating on, across and around Broad Street in parts of North Philadelphia, Center City and South Philadelphia will be altered due to road closures that will be in place for the race. Detours are expected to start at approximately 7:30 am on Sunday. The Route 16 will be on detour starting at 4 am SEPTA will resume regular service as soon as possible after the race.

Bus Detours

Detours are currently scheduled for the following bus routes: 2, 3, 4, 7, 9, 12, *15 (Bus), 16, 17, 21, 23, 27, 29, 31, 32, 33, 37, 38, 39, 40, 42, 43, 44, 45, 48, 53, 54, 56, 60, 61, 64, 68, 75, 79, 124/125, G, J, H, XH, and R in the area surrounding the race. Buses will replace Route 15 Trolleys along Girard Ave during the race. For planned detour information for specific routes, customers can visit the System Status section of SEPTA’s website at https://www.septa.org/realtime/status/system-status.shtml and select Travel Advisory for the specific route. System Status will also have frequent updates on detours before, during and after the race.

SEPTA customers using buses that operate on or near the race course are urged to plan ahead for these service adjustments by checking detour information online. Riders should also allow for extra time to complete their trips.

Extra Subway Service for Race

Additional Express Broad Street Line Trains will operate every 10 minutes prior to the race, departing NRG Station beginning at 4:10 am, with stops at Olney Transportation Center and Fern Rock Transportation Center.

For southbound service on the Broad Street Line there will be twelve Express trains. Each will leave Fern Rock Station every 10 minutes starting at 4:10 am until 5:50 am

Extra Service for Phillies and Sixers Games

SEPTA will also run extra Broad Street Line service for Sunday’s Phillies-Nationals game at Citizens Bank Park. Three Sports Express trips will leave Fern Rock Transportation Center every 10 minutes beginning at 12:58 pm. First pitch is 2:05 pm. For the Sixers-Raptors game there will be three Local trains leaving Fern Rock beginning at 2:15 pm. For the 3:30 pm. Tip-off.
