SEPTA Announces New Assistant General Manager of Operations

SEPTA General Manager Joseph M. Casey announced the promotion of Ronald G. Hopkins to the position of Assistant General Manager (AGM) of Operations. With this appointment, which is effective immediately, Mr. Hopkins will oversee the operation of SEPTA’s entire fleet of more than 2,000 vehicles – buses, trolleys, subway-elevated and Regional Rail cars. This includes the operation and maintenance of all 23 SEPTA shops and the management of nearly 7,000 employees. He will report directly to Jeff Knueppel, the newly appointed Deputy General Manager.

Mr. Hopkins, a 22-year employee, began his career in the System Safety Department. He progressed to the role of Director of System Safety prior to being promoted to the position of Chief Control Center Officer, a position he has held for the past 11 years. As Chief Control Center Officer, Mr. Hopkins was involved in every aspect of SEPTA’s daily operation.

“One of his foremost accomplishments was overseeing the consolidation and centralization of all modes of operations into a state-of-the-art Control Center,” said General Manager Casey. “We wish him continued success in his new role.”

In addition to his responsibilities as AGM of Operations, Mr. Hopkins will continue to maintain oversight of the Control Center, until the position is filled.

Mr. Hopkins has a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Villanova University and a Master’s Degree in Environmental Engineering from Drexel University.

He resides in Ambler, PA, with his wife and their three sons.
