SEPTA Announces New Chief Engineer

SEPTA General Manager Joseph M. Casey announced the promotion of Andrew Gillespie to the position of Chief Engineer, in the Engineering, Maintenance & Construction Division. With this appointment, which is effective immediately, Mr. Gillespie will oversee the authority’s Power, Track, Bridges & Building and C&S Departments. He will report directly to Robert L. Lund Jr., the newly appointed Assistant General Manager of Engineering, Maintenance & Construction.

Mr. Gillespie, a six-year employee, has a diverse background in the engineering, construction and operations of transportation and transit systems. Prior to joining SEPTA, Andy was the Senior Project Manager and Engineering Lead on Denver’s Regional Transportation Division (RTD) East Corridor electric commuter rail and the Traction Power Lead on the Division’s southeast corridor light rail extension project.

With a total of 16 years of experience in the industry, he has also served as Assistant Division Engineer for New Jersey Transit and has held various engineering and management positions at multiple consulting firms.

Mr. Gillespie graduated from Northeastern University in Boston with a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering and is a licensed Professional Engineer in eight states including Pennsylvania and New Jersey. In addition to his academic and professional certifications, Mr. Gillespie is an active member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and The American Railway Engineering and Maintenance of Way Association (AREMA).

He resides in Doylestown, PA with his wife and three children.
