SEPTA Celebrates Completion of Primos Station Reconstruction Project

New Station Features ADA Accessibility, Increased Parking and Modern Amenities

SEPTA representatives gathered Thursday with elected officials, community leaders and other dignitaries to celebrate the completion of the $8.3 million, Primos Station Reconstruction Project.

Situated along SEPTA’s Media/Elwyn Regional Rail Line in Upper Darby Township and Aldan Borough, Primos Station is a vision of modern transportation. Improvements to the Station include; a new station building, installation of a “kiss and ride” drop-off area; Americans with Disabilities Act accessible (ADA) high-level platforms on the inbound and outbound sides of the station; increased parking; new site accessories including benches, trash and recycling cans, news box pen and bike rack; new bio-filtration system to manage stormwater onsite; and newly landscaped areas. Passengers will also notice the enhanced lighting, signage and audio/visual capabilities. Work is currently taking place to add 55 additional parking spaces on the outbound side of the station.

The station also serves as a connection point for SEPTA’s Route 107 Bus. Approximately 386 trips begin or end at Primos Station each weekday.

“Today, we celebrate the modernization and newfound accessibility of Primos Station,” SEPTA General Manager Joseph Casey said. “We thank our passengers and the surrounding community for their patience while we were working to transform the station into a safe, modern, accessible, public transportation location. The newly renovated station is unique in that it will benefit two different communities, at the same time, for years to come.”

Primos Station renovations began in February 2011 and lasted until January 2013. The existing station was fully operational during construction. All work was completed by a combination of SEPTA employees and third party contractors, a prime example of the authority’s hybrid construction approach. This method matches SEPTA in-house work with pre-fabricated elements, leveraging outside experience with the strengths of internal resources to increase overall productivity and cost effectiveness.
