SEPTA Chief Engineer Promoted To Deputy General Manager

SEPTA Board Chairman Pasquale T. Deon, Sr. and SEPTA General Manager Joseph M. Casey have announced the promotion of Jeffrey D. Knueppel, P.E. to the position of Deputy General Manager. With this appointment, Mr. Knueppel will oversee the Engineering, Maintenance and Construction (EM&C) Division and the Operations Division. He will report directly to General Manager Casey.

Prior to his promotion, Mr. Knueppel served as Assistant General Manager/Chief Engineer of the EM&C Division, a position he held for the last six years of his 24-year career with SEPTA.

Mr. Knueppel’s EM&C Stimulus Team has been recognized throughout the industry for working quickly to provide job opportunities on $191 million in ARRA-funded projects that made meaningful improvements to an aging transportation infrastructure. The EM&C Division is presently engaged in launching a fare collection modernization project for all modes of transportation in the SEPTA fleet.

Mr. Knueppel is a graduate of the Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art in New York. He holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in Civil Engineering and he is a registered Professional Engineer in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. He is a member of ASCE, AREMA and APTA associations. In 2009, Mr. Knueppel was the recipient of AMTRAK’s State Partner Award. On behalf of SEPTA, Mr. Knueppel accepted the American Council of Engineering Companies of Pennsylvania (ACEC/PA) Client of the Year award in 2010. More recently, Mr. Knueppel and SEPTA General Manager Joseph Casey accepted a Brunel Award in an international design competition for work on three of SEPTA’s Regional Railroad stations. He is also involved with the March of Dimes and is currently the Chair of the Transportation, Building & Construction Awards Luncheon in Philadelphia. He resides in Perkasie, PA with his wife Kelly and their three sons.
