Most of the track in this area was installed in the mid-1980s, and this switch and track crossing renewal project is normal replacement of the track infrastructure. SEPTA will excavate, renew and pave all tracks within the intersection of 49th and Woodland. Among the improvements resulting from the project will be reduced sound and vibrations and a smoother ride due to the new track components.

Normal construction hours will be Monday-Friday, 7 am-8 pm Weekend work will be required to maintain the project schedule. During the project, 49th Street and Woodland Avenue will be closed to vehicular traffic in all directions for a full block from the worksite. All side streets will be closed to thru traffic, but local traffic will be permitted up to the construction site closure. Vehicular traffic, including buses, will be detoured around the construction sites. Parking will not be allowed in the area or adjacent to the tracks being reconstructed, however, exceptions will be made for those with special needs. Access for businesses will be arranged.
