SEPTA’s Broad Street Line Offers Speedy Travel To & Around The Broad Street Run

Extra Subway Service Will Be Available; Dozens of Surface Bus Routes to be Detoured

As runners take over the streets this Sunday, May 3 for the 2015 Independence Blue Cross Broad Street Run, SEPTA reminds the public that the Broad Street Subway will be the fastest way to travel to and around the race events.

Starting at 4:10am on Sunday, SEPTA will begin rolling out twelve additional trains on the Broad Street Line to shuttle runners, spectators, and passengers along Broad Street between Fern Rock & AT&T Station. These additional trains will supplement normally scheduled local train service on the line. Broad Street Line trains are scheduled to make the 8 mile express trip from Olney to City Hall in less than 15 minutes.

Runners who are officially registered can show their race bib to station cashiers on the line for easy access to trains before and after the race. Olney Transportation Center is a short walk from the race’s starting line. AT&T Station provides the best access to the race’s finish line in South Philadelphia. SEPTA encourages early-morning participants who ride Regional Rail that they can get a “leg-up” on getting to the subway with an easy transfer to the Broad Street Line at Fern Rock Transportation Center.

On the surface, SEPTA is alerting bus passengers that all routes that cross or travel on Broad Street will be affected by race-related detours, beginning as early as 3:30am until the event finish. Nearly forty routes will see changes. The affected lines are: 3, 4, 7,9,12, 16, 17, 21, 23, 27, 29, 31, 32, 33, 37, 38, 39, 40, 42, 43, 44, 48, 53, 54, 56, 60, 61, 64, 68, 75, 79, 124, 125, G, J, H, XH, and R. Service on Trolley Route 15 will be replaced by buses for the on the entire route to accommodate detours around Broad Street and Girard Avenue. All riders planning surface transit trips on or near the course are urged to plan ahead for service changes and to allow for additional time to complete their trips. Normal service patterns on each line will be resumed as soon as possible after the race ends.
