Weekend Schedule Adjustment Planned for Multiple SEPTA Regional Rail Lines

Center City Regional Rail Tunnel to Close for Emergency Maintenance Work

Due to emergency maintenance work in the Center City Tunnel that connects SEPTA train service between 30th Street and University City, weekend service adjustments will be made to SEPTA’s Airport, Media/Elwyn and Wilmington/Newark Regional Rail lines on November 14-15, 2015 and December 4-5, 2015.

During these weekends, SEPTA’s in-house forces will be working to address the urgent need to replace overhead catenary wire in the tunnel. In addition to replacing overhead catenary wire in the tunnel, work will include track tunnel improvements, station cleaning and general maintenance work (removing vegetation along right of way, trash cleanup, graffiti removal and tree trimming) to prepare for the 2015-2016 winter season.

This work will require two weekend closures of the tunnel on November 14-15, 2015 and December 5-6, 2015. Due to the closure of the Center City Regional Rail tunnel on those weekends, service along SEPTA’s Airport, Media/Elwyn and Wilmington/Newark lines will be affected:

Airport: Shuttle buses will replace all train service between 30th Street Station and Airport Terminals A-F. The buses will also service University City and Eastwick Stations. Customers who connect to the Airport Line from the Warminster or West Trenton lines should exit at 30th Street Station and transfer to shuttle buses.

Media/Elwyn Line: Express and local shuttle bus service will operate in place of train service across the entire line. Customers who connect to the Media/Elwyn line from Chestnut Hill East should exit at 30th Street Station and transfer to shuttle buses.

Wilmington/Newark: Regularly scheduled train service will operate, however, customers who are traveling through to Norristown will need to transfer to Manayunk/Norristown Line trains at 30th Street Station.

Directional signage will be posted at stations and will include shuttle bus boarding location information. Passengers can visit https://www.septa.org/service/rail/2015-rrd-tunnel-closure.html to view changes to their train lines and download the supplemental schedule.
