SEPTA Calls for Renewable Energy Project Proposals

Seeks up to 20 percent of electricity from power purchase agreement

SEPTA has released a request for proposals (RFP) to purchase electricity generated by wind, solar or other renewable energy sources. The solicitation seeks to transition between 10 and 20 percent of SEPTA’s annual electricity requirement from its current mix of grid-based sources to zero-carbon sources.

SEPTA is interested in contracting for a fixed price for the renewable energy through a power purchase agreement for a period of up to 20 years. To be eligible, the project must be competitive with SEPTA’s current cost of electricity.

“This RFP represents a key commitment of SEPTA’s Energy Action Plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from transportation,” said SEPTA General Manager Jeffrey D. Knueppel. “Riding SEPTA is already one of the best ways to reduce your carbon footprint, and with this initiative, SEPTA will advance its position as a leader in environmental sustainability.”

A pre-bid meeting for firms interested in submitting a proposal will be held on Thursday, October 18 at 11:30 am at SEPTA headquarters located at 1234 Market Street, in conference room 11C.
