SEPTA Invites Customers To Join Major Key Expansion Starting Thursday, Feb. 9

are Kiosk Key Card Sales To Launch at 69th Street Transportation Center, Marking Transition From 'Early Adopters' Program

With more than five million trips already taken by customers using the Key, SEPTA is ready to transition from the “Early Adopters” phase and bring fare modernization to more riders. This expansion will include all transit stations, starting at 69th Street Transportation Center on Thursday, Feb. 9, when customers will be able to get a new Key Card with the purchase of a TransPass (Weekly/Monthly), Convenience Pass or when they load funds to a Travel Wallet.

“The SEPTA Key is making travel more convenient for our riders, as reloadable cards are replacing outdated fare instruments such as magnetic-stripe passes, tokens and paper transfers,” said SEPTA General Manager Jeffrey D. Knueppel. “We look forward to welcoming more riders to the future of fare payment with this latest program expansion.”

69th Street was chosen as the first location for this expansion due to the wide range of customers it serves. As SEPTA’s largest transit hub with over 36,000 daily riders, 69th Street provides connections to multiple city and suburban transit services, including the Market-Frankford Line, the Routes 101 and 102 Trolleys, the Norristown High Speed Line and bus routes.

Beginning Monday, Feb. 13, and continuing throughout February and early March, Fare Kiosks will be activated at:

  • All Broad Street Line Stations
  • All Market-Frankford Line Stations
  • Major Bus Loops

Key Cards will be available at these locations with the purchase of Weekly and Monthly TransPasses, and then reloadable for all passes and the Travel Wallet. For the full rollout schedule, go to https://www.septa.org/key.

Riders will immediately begin to see significant benefits by moving to the Key, including:

  • Options to load online, over the phone and at kiosks, as well as automatic reload
  • No more waiting to purchase passes, tokens and transfers — or worrying about having exact change
  • Balance Protection: Customers can protect the value of their TransPass and Travel Wallet from loss or theft by registering their Key Card online or over the phone.
