SEPTA Offers Special Service to Inaugural Parx Casino Philly Cycling Classic

The 2013 Bike Race Sets New Tradition and Race Route in City Neighborhoods

SEPTA will offer special service on its Manayunk/Norristown Regional Rail Line and make service adjustments to several bus routes for the Parx Casino Philly Classic on Sunday, June 2, 2013.

Manayunk, East Falls and Wissahickon Stations on SEPTA’s Manayunk/Norristown Regional Rail line are located along the 12-mile cycling route and offer convenient access to prime viewing spots. The Manayunk Station, located near the corner of Carson & Cresson Streets will provide race-goers with easy walking distance to “The Wall”.

On race day, train service will operate every 30 minutes between 7:41 am and 6:41 pm. From the Norristown Transportation Center to Manayunk and continue to Center City (30th Street Station). The first two trains departing from Elm Street Station (#205 and #207) will operate eight minutes earlier than the regular schedule between Elm Street and Manayunk Stations. A special shuttle bus will also operate between Elm Street, Main Street and The Norristown Transportation Center between 8:30 am and 6:30 pm.

Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA)/wheelchair passengers traveling inbound to Center City Philadelphia from Elm Street Station must board a shuttle bus. The shuttle bus will transport passengers to the Norristown Transportation Center where an accessible van will take them to Spring Mill Station to complete their trips.

ADA/wheelchair passengers traveling outbound from Center City to Elm Street Station must exit the train at Spring Mill Station and board the accessible van to complete their trips.

Regular Sunday schedules will be in effect for all other SEPTA Regional Rail Lines. Customers can check schedules and view the special race day schedule at www.septa.org or contact SEPTA Customer Service at 215-580-7800.

Single and Family One-Day Independence passes provide unlimited travel on all SEPTA services including Regional Rail to the race for one low price. In addition to Center City Stations, ticket offices will be open between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm at Norristown Transportation Center Regional Rail Station, Conshohocken Station, Manayunk Station and East Falls Station on race day. Ticket office hours at 30th Street, Suburban and Market East Stations are 8 am until 7 pm.

A number of buses that normally operate on and around the race course on roads such as Kelly Drive, Ridge Avenue, Manayunk Avenue, Main Street, Levering Street, Pechin Street and Lyceum Avenue will be detoured. Bus routes 9, 27, 32, 35, 38, 61, 65, 124, 125, K and R are all scheduled to go on detour starting at 6 am Sunday. Normal service will resume as soon as possible after the race.
