SEPTA Urges Customers To Make The Switch To SEPTA Key

Legacy Weekly/Monthly TransPass & Convenience Pass Sales End at SEPTA Sales Locations June 1

With over 100,000 SEPTA Key cards now in circulation, the authority is ready to start phasing-out sales of legacy magnetic-stripe Weekly/Monthly TransPasses and One-Day Convenience Passes.

Starting June 1, all customers purchasing these transit passes at SEPTA sales locations will receive them on a reloadable SEPTA Key card. All other fare products, including tokens and Regional Rail TrailPasses, will continue to be sold at SEPTA sales offices after June 1.

A date has not yet been set for the end of token sales, but customers who use tokens can get the same value – and added convenience – by switching now to a SEPTA Key card and using the Travel Wallet. The pay-as-you-go Travel Wallet is one of many features that have been introduced to customers during the SEPTA Key rollout on buses, subways and trolleys over the last year.

“The SEPTA Key fare modernization program is a transformative initiative that is improving travel for our customers,” said SEPTA General Manager Jeffrey D. Knueppel. “We are urging riders to make the switch from legacy fare products now, so they can start enjoying the benefits of the SEPTA Key.”

For Monthly/Weekly TransPass customers, the move to the Key means not having to wait in line every week or month to purchase a pass – with the Key Card, customers have the option to reload online, over the phone or at a Fare Kiosk.

Balance protection, which is not available with legacy magnetic-stripe passes, is also available with the SEPTA Key. Once customers have a Key Card, they can call the Key Customer Call Center at (855) 567- 3782 or go to https://www.septakey.org to register their account to protect it against loss or theft.
